Table tennis has been a sport that I have played passionately since I was 14 years old. I have played both socially and competitively and have represented the State of NSW on a number of occasions including under 15's, under 17's and under 20's. I have now stopped playing competitively and play more for fitness and socially. Also, I am a level 2 accredited table tennis coach in Australia.
I am also a Qualified Special Education teacher and have taught both in Australia and England for 5 years and before that, I have also worked with adults with disabilities as a support worker for the Disability Services of Australia. I have developed a strong interest in the education and support of children and adults with special needs and it is my endeavour to use my skills and talent to develop Special Education further.
During my career as a Special Education teacher, I have organised sports days with table tennis to be one of the sports. I have found that table tennis is a fantastic sport for students with a range of disabilities including children with ADHD, Autism and Down Syndrome. For those who struggle with hitting the ball over the net, I simply take the net off and play the game like air hockey (this develops their hand-eye coordination), I would introduce the net at a lower height when the students hand-eye coordination has developed. Through my observation, Table tennis is not only fun but is a great sport to develop fitness and hand-eye coordination.
I believe Table Tennis can be enjoyed by all people. The great thing about table tennis is that being an indoor sport, it can be played in all seasons! 'Sydney Table Tennis' is a club for all people and Special Table Tennis' is a fundamental part of Sydney Table Tennis. We provide coaching and organise social and competitive events. So please come along and share our passion!
Kind Regards,
Tony

I am a level 2 accredited table tennis coach in Australia. I am a keen table tennis player and spend most weekends playing table tennis..
My children have been representing NSW in many National Championships and I would like to take this opportunity to develop them with other children with the right technique to play. Why not enrol your child/children into table tennis this year and share the fun?
Kind Regards,
Simon
